Grey

The colour grey is an unemotional colour. It is detached, neutral, impartial and indecisive – the fence-sitter.

Being both motionless and emotionless, grey is solid and stable, creating a sense of calm and composure, relief from a chaotic world.

The colour grey is subdued, quiet and reserved. It does not stimulate, energise, rejuvenate or excite. However, grey has a steadying effect on other colours, toning down stronger and brighter colours while illuminating softer shades. Rarely is grey a perfect mix of black and white – it often has elements of other colours such as blue, green, pink, or yellow shifting the hue and enhancing the appearance. Too much grey can create sadness and depression or a tendency to loneliness and isolation. It needs to be combined with other colours to give it passion, energy and life.
