The climate crisis we currently face is the greatest threat we have ever known. Dangerous climate ‘tipping points’ have already been reached and there isn’t a place on Earth that won’t be affected.
One of the most effective ways to tackle this climate crisis and keep our temperatures from rising above 1.5C is to plant trees. They are also crucial in preventing ecological collapse.
We understand that there is not one solution to tackling the climate crisis and there is not enough land on Earth to tackle climate change with trees alone, but trees can be an important and powerful natural solution.

Together we are ensuring the right trees are planted in the right places, have been verified for the maximum positive impact, long-term survival and to protect and enhance the natural biodiversity.
Responsible planting
Trees are one of the best tools we have in removing carbon pollution from our atmosphere. All the trees Straight Forward are funding will quietly remove carbon from the atmosphere over their lifetime and are doing sterling work sucking up atmospheric carbon.
However, we understand that when done poorly, tree planting projects can worsen the very problems they are meant to solve. Planting the wrong trees in the wrong place can reduce biodiversity, speeding extinctions and making ecosystems far less resilient.
A trusted partner
To ensure we support responsible tree planting, we work with Ecologi and their entrusted reforestation partners so we can be sure that our investment will genuinely make a real difference in restoring forest ecosystems and support livelihoods.
Our trees are planted through Ecologi’s reforestation partner, Eden Reforestation Projects, either in Madagascar, Mozambique, Uganda, Tanzania, Morocco, Peru, Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador and Kenya.
Supporting livelihoods
Eden use an “Employ to Plant” methodology, which helps alleviate extreme poverty by paying local people a fair wage to plant trees and manage the nurseries. This consistent income is vital for families, helping them to afford nutritious food, send children to school, and even start their own businesses to become more economically independent.
A great benefit of Eden’s projects being community-led is that the local people are interested and involved in the projects, and therefore want to look after the trees they plant. This is a key element of Eden’s projects’ success – the trees are valued by the local communities and are therefore safe from threats of deforestation that occurs in other parts of the world.
Consideration of biodiversity
Partnering with Ecologi ensures we are investing in the right type of trees in the right areas using local knowledge and people. By planting a mix of native tree species on a huge scale, Eden’s reforestation projects rapidly transform landscapes as well as communities. In Madagascar there has already been significant progress restoring the mangrove forests that were once there.
Ongoing monitoring & protection for sites
Ecologi only work with reputable partners, who have a legal responsibility to report on the progress of the trees funded. In addition, Ecologi are constantly looking into ways to improve remote monitoring of planting sites so progression can be monitored.
