Silcrow

The section sign (§), also know as a silcrow,a section mark, a double S (§§) or in some parts of Europe a paragraph mark, has a few uses. The typographic character is mainly used in legal documents to reference a section, e.g. § 123 or when referring to multiple sections a double section sign is used, e.g. §§ 123–125. The silcrow can also be used as a footnote when an asterisk (*), a dagger (†) and a double dagger (‡) have already been used on the page. There are many different styles of the section symbol depending upon which typeface you choose to use, but I think you will agree that it is a fun character!
